Zeitfluss
Current of Time
Innsbruck, Karwendelbrücke
08.09 to 22.09.2013
Project description
Times passes without leaving any marks. This seems to happen without trace, and when we are terribly short of time, all we can ask is: Where has the time gone?
The installation Zeitfluss [Current of Time] gives a visible, perceptible form to the passage of time. Using drops of black colouring 1 each current time is formed on the surface of the Inn, with the format HH:MM (e.g. 12:47). The river carries the liquid work along, whereupon the time begins to dissolve in its waves: time passes.
Time disappears in front of our eyes, and this otherwise unpleasant moment is given a level of calm – the river follows its course, although we stand still, and the value of our own time is thus recognizable.
- The food colouring “brilliant black” (E151), which is used for marzipan and caviar among other things, provides the black colour of the drops. The colouring is ecologically sound and does no damage to man or animals. Per day, a total of 70g is dropped into the Inn.
