Yi Dong Cha
Innsbruck, bilding, HERberge, Place in front of the Tiroler Landestheater

Project description
The work Yi Dong Cha is an architectural performance. It took place in public space in Innsbruck from 17th May to 4th June. A mobile object was constructed, providing a platform for various performative concepts and including a small kitchen.
In cooperation with the School of Art and Architecture, bilding, mainly children and recently arrived representatives of Middle and Far Eastern cultures were invited to participate actively in the project.
Together with the artistic team, the guests carried out experiments concerned with the constant transformation of the object and with abstract tea preparation devices.
The results of these experiments around concepts of tea-drinking societies, tea preparation and spatial design flowed into the sustainable future development of mobile tea-houses in public space.
The construction employs a technique that has become a tradition; it was developed by artist Rainer Prohaska, who refers to his method as “Toy-Kit Architectures”. It is a modular construction kit system to realise works operating at the intersection of performative architecture and sculpture.
